The advisory warns of increased terrorist attacks and violence in the West Bank over the last year. U.S. government employees working in Israel must obtain special authorization for official travel to the West Bank, and they and their family members are restricted from personal travel except on Routes 1, 90, and 443, and to Jericho and Bethlehem from dawn to midnight. Checkpoint 300 near Rachel’s Tomb is the only permitted route into Bethlehem for them. Additional restrictions may be imposed with little notice. Travelers are advised to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
